Anthony I. (Tony) Wasserman is a Professor in the Software Management program at Carnegie Mellon University's Silicon Valley campus. There he created the Center for Open Source Investigation, which serves as a focus for his research on evaluation, adoption, and use of open source. Previously, Tony was the founder and CEO of Interactive Development Environments (IDE), one of the first 100 dot-coms, which created the innovative multiuser platform for Software through Pictures (StP) and was among the first to include open source in a commercial software product. Tony is a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a Fellow of the ACM, honored for his contributions to integrated software engineering environments. He is also a Fellow of IFIP and of ISPMA. From 2010 to 2016, he served on the Board of Directors of the Open Source Initiative (OSI). He served as Chair from 2015-22 of IFIP Working Group 2.13 (Open Source). He is an advisor to several software startups and is a Key Advisor for the UC Berkeley Skydeck accelerator program.
